Using My Social Sextant: Finding The Constwellations In The Twitterverse

A while back, Brian Solis (@briansolis) and Jesse Thomas (@jess3) collaborated to bring us a striking new infographic entitled “The Twitterverse”. By now, I’m sure you’ve seen it (if you haven’t, it’s certainly worth a look). It’s rich in detail and is super-saturated with information about the myriad applications that can be used in conjunction with Twitter and the ways in which they enhance our experiences there.

I spent a long time gazing (to borrow Brian’s phrase) into the Twitterverse. And I got to thinking.

The Twitterverse gives us the tools, the “whats”, if you will, for using Twitter. But I was interested in the “hows”; the real reasons we use Twitter (and other social sites). What are the benefits? The detractors? WHY do we use it?

And I started to see The Constwellations …

Start A Buzz (I had to go there)
Emotional Connections (Express yourself)
The Network (Who do you trust? Who do you trust?)
Support (Can I help you?)
The Scales of Justice (Fighting for the forces of good)
The Rogue Wave (What to do when disaster strikes)
The Toolbox (Not where the dorks hang out, but the mechanics of tweeting)
The Waste Bin (Where you absolutely don’t want to be found)

In the coming days, I’ll explore each of The Constwellations in greater detail, examining the nuances and details that make each so important.

Like The Twitterverse, I’m sure that The Constwellations will be ever-evolving, as we discover new and creative ways to build relationships and defend the forces of good (as well as have fun) with the micro-blogging site.

As always, I welcome your thoughts, suggestions and insight (we’re all in this together, you know).
